On Monday, September 27, 2010 the KQV, a local radio station here in Pittsburgh, conducted a listener poll which asked, "In your opinion, does the steady string of inflammatory remarks by Mamoud Ahmadinejad only further the dislike of Muslims in the western world?" 92% percent of their phone poll listeners said yes.
This question is inappropriate, because it inflames the stereotyped prejudices that Americans have against Muslims. A more appropriate question would be, "Do you equate a few crazy people like Ahmadinejad or the 9/11 bombers to the entire Muslim world?" There are 1.4 billion Muslims in this world, and most of them are just like us who want to raise their children in peace. KQV should stop playing into the race baiting and hatred. It feeds into the fears and ignorance of each side and divides the country, thereby creating a dangerous situation.
